AREA 51
Message from the Architect:
The future of climbing begins with our youth, so when we were approached by MJ Playgrounds on behalf of Area 51 to design and build bouldering walls within Australia’s largest indoor family entertainment centre, we were eager to create a space that was unique. Something that combines functionality and fun on a level that resonates with young people and families alike.
Quite often, entertainment centres deliver adventurous obstacles, small-scale climbing and colourful activities. It is exciting to see Area 51 go with full size, performance level bouldering walls in these areas.
With the design process we capitalised on the opportunity to build something that could connect youth with sport climbing while being immersed in play.
Area 51 features stylish walls that offer an array of levels and complexity ensuring there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy. We want designs that motivates parents to come in and climb with their kids. Encouraging these mixed interactions provides a welcoming and safe space for everyone to feel energised and challenging the next generation of climbers.
